LAWRENCE (AP) – An overheated refrigerator is being blamed for a fire at a University of Kansas building.

The fire on Saturday at Malott Hall damaged a medicinal chemistry laboratory. No one was injured.

Kansas spokesman Jack Martin says the fire apparently started in a condenser and condensation tray on the back of the refrigerator.

He says no criminal activity is suspected.

Damage was mostly confined to the lab, although laboratories two floors below had some water damage. A damage estimate has not been determined.

The building was open for classes Monday.
