Overland Park Pharmacy Technician sentenced for diverting prescription drugs

KANSAS CITY, KANSAS – An Overland Park man has been sentenced to two years federal probation for diverting prescription drugs.

26-year-old Waqas Iqbal Chowdhry, of Overland Park pleaded guilty to a federal felony charge of obtaining prescription drugs by fraud. In his plea, he admitted that from April 2011 to October 2011 while working as a pharmacy technician at Costco Pharmacy, 12221 Blue Valley Parkway in Overland Park, he stole prescription drugs.

He stole more than 500 tablets of Hydrocodone, a Schedule II controlled substance, and approximately 200 tablets of Lorazepam, a Schedule IV controlled substance.

He also falsified the store’s written inventories in an attempt to hide the thefts.
