NEWTON, Kan. — It was a great weekend for the Nickerson High School volleyball team as it finished in second place against some very tough competition at the Newton Invitational.

The Panthers took three of four matches in pool play by defeating Kingman, Goddard Eisenhower,
and Andale, before falling to McPherson.

The Panthers then downed Andover Central in the semi-finals before falling to 5A power Newton in three sets in the championship match.

Buhler was also at the meet and went 3 and 2 on the weekend. That was good enough for seventh place. The Crusaders won out over Andover Central and Wichita Heights but fell to Salina South and Newton in pool play. The Crusaders then defeated Eisenhower in the seventh place match.

Nickerson’s Cyra Kelley and Morgan Stout were named to the all-tournament team. Haley Waldren was named honorable mention for Buhler.
