Hutchinson Community College sophomore guard Laura Patrick comes off a near perfect weekend and earned Verizon Wireless/Jayhawk Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, the league announced on Tuesday.
Patrick, a 5-foot-10 guard from Hutchinson Central Christian, missed just one shot in two games over the weekend to lead the No. 3-ranked Lady Dragons to two victories over Division II, No. 2 Johnson County and Lamar in the Ramada Thanksgiving Classic at the Sports Arena.
Patrick was perfect from the field and hit a crucial 3-pointer in the first overtime with HCC trailing by five early in the period. She finished with 13 points against the Cavaliers.
Against Lamar, Patrick scored a season-high 19 points, knocking down 3 of 3 from 3-point range to lead HCC to a decisive victory.
Patrick is the first Lady Dragon to win the weekly conference honor, which for the second-straight year is sponsored by Verizon Wireless. Patrick is now eligible for NJCAA National Player of the Week honors. That will be announced on Wednesday.
