Phone scam’s again hitting the area

scam-alert1

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – We’ve seen it in the past, the old scam where residents are receiving calls with the person claiming to be a warrant officer. That individual calls people demanding cash for warrants to prevent them from being arrested.

No one from the Reno County Sheriff’s Office will call a resident and demand immediate payment. All payments go directly through the courts.

If you have questions regarding warrants or procedures of the Sheriff’s Office, call them at 694-2735.

And the IRS scam is also still going around with the caller saying they are with the IRS and demanding immediate payment usually asking that the person get a money order or a cash card.

Again, don’t fall for this. If you get a call like this, your best bet is just to hang up or report it to local law enforcement.
