A case of attempted strong arm robbery has a Hutchinson man jailed on a 100-hundred thousand dollar bond.

Police say Justin Gleason had strong armed another Hutchinson man once before and attempted to do it again.

Allegedly, Gleason sent text messages to the victim and told him he better have the money, and was coming over to collect. Apparently, he was blackmailing the victim in order to get money. When he showed up at the victims home just after 12:30 a-m Thursday morning, police were already aware of what was happening and were there waiting and placed him under arrest.

Charges against Gleason include attempted robbery, attempted aggravated burglary, criminal threat and blackmail. Police wouldn’t say what the blackmail was over, but other sources tell us, the money sought may have been over drugs.

So far, police have not arrested him on charges associated with the first strong arm robbery, with officials telling us they will send the report to the D-A’s office, then let them decide on formal charges.

Gleason made a first appearance on the initial charges Friday morning where Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen left the bond where it was. He’ll be back in court next Wednesday or whenever the state files formal charges.

Gleason had served time on community corrections for a felony conviction of criminal damage to property for a case that goes back to 2008.

He then used a baseball bat on a vehicle parked at a home in Westside Villa, west of Hutchinson.

He was initially arrested for two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and criminal damage to property, but was only convicted for the criminal damage to property count.

That incident started with Gleason allegedly grabbing the wife of 23-year-old Malcolm Philbrick inside McGraw’s Nightclub. Gleason was told to leave the club after a minor disturbance. Apparently the altercation continued when all of the parties left the club and ended up at a home at 3408 West 9th.

He ended up smashing the windows of a car that was owned by 53-year-old Hutchinson man who was merely at the home visiting.
