Prairie Star Health Center announced this morning that they will use a 5-million dollar grant to build a new facility in the Hutchinson that they hope will double its capabilities. Officials were on hand from Prairie Star and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to make the announcement.

Prairie Star CEO Sally Tesluk says that they are working to put the final touches on a location for the project and said they hope to have a new 32-thousand square foot facility ready to go by the end of the year. Prairie Star has been at its current location at the Trades Center building at 17th and Lorraine since 2007.

Others health service providers in Kansas that will receive funding include the Konza Prairie Community Health Center, in Junction City which gets about $4.5 million, Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, in Pittsburg will receive $4.7 million; Salina Health Education Foundation, will get $2.7 million and the Hunter Health Clinic in Wichita, which gets about $4.6 million. The limit of funding was 5 million dollars per entity and Prairie Star was the only health center to get the full allotment.
