HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The preliminary hearing for a man accused with some serious felonies was continued again Thursday, but for a different reason then usual.

The state made a plea offer to James Dean who faces charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery and criminal possession of a firearm, which allegedly was a 9 mm, handgun.

After the state made the offer, Dean’s attorney ask for time so that his client could consider the offer which could see some charges dropped. The state didn’t oppose letting Dean have time to consider the offer. Details of the offer were not release.

In this case, Dean is accused of going to the home of 50-year-old David Crossman, entering the home uninvited, forcing the victim from his home and then beating him with a baseball bat. This occurring back on February 28.

Judge Joe McCarville set a date of June 18, for either a plea, or allowing the state to present evidence in a preliminary hearing.

Dean has another case pending jury trial on June 17, but its unclear if there is an offer made in that case also. He’s accused of stabbing a man and running over him with his own truck. That allegedly occurring in the early morning hours of August 4, 2013.

Again, we’ll let you know if Dean excepts the plea or not after the hearing on June 18.
