HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The 19-year-old man suspected of being the shooter in the killing of a Hutchinson man was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Thursday. He was brought into the courtroom with many of the victim’s family members present. However, the hearing for Leo Wells was apparently continued and no one was told.

Wells was charged with murder in the second degree after officers of the Hutchinson Police Department were dispatched to the 100 block of South Elm in reference to a shooting and located the victim, 24-year-old Kenneth Thompson, lying in the street with a gunshot wound. Thompson was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries. That was on June 24.

No new date was announced for the preliminary hearing and Wells remains jailed on a $350,000 bond.
