PRETTY PRAIRIE, Kan. — A 30-year-old man was taken into custody after a disturbance in Pretty Prairie Saturday afternoon.

Just after 4:30 p.m., deputies with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 221 W. Main on the report of a disturbance involving an armed person.

When they arrived, they met a 40-year-old female victim who had a bump to the back of her head and cuts to her face, which she received while allegedly fighting over a gun with Eric Pierce.

An argument had ensued earlier in the day and the victim left the house. When she returned, Pierce allegedly pointed a gun at her and, some time during the scuffle, she was allegedly hit over the back of the head with a 9 mm handgun.

There was a brief time that Pierce wouldn’t allow the victim to leave the house. Since Pierce was believed to still be armed, the residence was surrounded and neighboring homes were evacuated, sheriff’s deputies and four highway patrol troopers established a perimeter.

Sheriff Sgt. Matt Tatro was able to finally make contact with Pierce through text messaging and convinced him to come out and give up. He was taken into custody and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, unlawful restraint and violation of a court order from a previous case.

He was initially taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center where he was kept for observation and then booked into jail early Monday morning.

Pierce has another case pending where he’s charged with three counts of aggravated assault where he allegedly pointed a gun at the same victim, as well as a shotgun twice and the third time, he allegedly pointed a handgun. These crimes occurred on May 12 and 14.

He’s jailed on a $150,000 bond for this latest arrest and his a request for a bond reduction was denied. He should be back in court for the latest arrest next Monday.
