TOPEKA, Kan. – Colonel Mark Bruce, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol announced Wednesday that Interim Assistant Superintendent Randy Moon has been promoted to lieutenant colonel. He has now begun permanently serving as the assistant superintendent of the patrol, the position he’s held in an interim capacity since February.

Moon joined the patrol on June 18, 1986, with his first duty station being at Wellington. He then transferred to Wichita in 1990, over to Kingman in 1992. He was then promoted to sergeant in February 1996, and was assigned to Governor’s Security detail. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1999, remaining in Governor’s Security. But, in 2000, he transferred to here in Reno County, serving as a zone supervisor for field units in the south central Kansas region. In January 2006, Moon was promoted to captain, and assumed command of the Patrol’s Troop M, Central Communications and the Criminal Justice Information Systems unit. With his promotion to lieutenant colonel, he’ll now oversee day to day operations of the patrol.

Moon is a graduate of Pratt High School where he earned an Associate’s degree in Administration of Justice from Barton County Community College. Prior to joining the patrol, he was a patrolman with the Pratt Police Department.
