RCAT numbers fall for the past fiscal year

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — RCAT ridership fell by almost 11,000 riders in the 2017-2018 fiscal year compared to the previous year. Figures that were released today by the county show total ridership was 92,764 for the period July to June, compared with 103,707 riders for the same period in 2016 and 2017.

The decline comes after the the bus service saw their numbers grow in 2017.

The ridership fell in all three categories. General public ridership fell from 48,533 into 43,279. Declines also came in the number of elderly and disabled riders where RCAT provides paratransit services.

The numbers will be part of the aging and transportation report to County Commissioners during Tuesday’s regular meeting.
