The future of funding for the Hutchinson Recreation Commission could be decided at Tuesday’s Hutchinson City Council meeting.
The Hutchinson City Council will go over the recommendations of the Hutchinson Recreation Study Committee which calls for the city of Hutchinson, the USD-308 School District, and the Rec Commission to work together to keep the Rec Commission operating as it always has.
The combination of the city, and school district working together will allow the commission to collect revenue from the entire city not just the Hutchinson school district. The committee thought that was only fair, since the entire city uses the rec facilities, and participates in its programs.
That means patrons in Nickerson, Buhler and Haven school districts that live in Hutchinson will help fund rec programs. The committee also stressed the need to let the Rec Commission operate on its own, since it’s worked well for the community for more than 60-years, and see no reason to change that.
The committee also recommends that if the city, school district and the commission can not work together, then everything should just go on as before.
