TOPEKA – Kansas Juvenile Justice Authority Commissioner Curtis Whitten announced today that during September, the JJA will permanently relocate female youth residents currently housed at the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex (KJCC) in Topeka to a newer stand-alone facility on the campus. There will continue to be absolutely no commingling of male and female youth residents.

This move will accomplish the agency’s goal of providing better living conditions and better access to dining and medical services, and will create a safer and more secure environment for the youth who are in the care and custody of the JJA.

At the present time there are fewer than 22 female youth and approximately 210 male youth housed at KJCC. The JJA also operates a smaller similar male facility at Larned which houses an average of 107 male youth.
