Reno County Commission denies Buhler request for Neighborhood Revitalization Zone

After a fairly lengthy argument by Buhler City officials again Tuesday, it still didn’t change the minds of the Reno County Commission when it comes to allowing entire communities to fall under a federal program and provide tax breaks on new construction in designated areas of a community. The Commission has already denied such proposals for South Hutchinson and Haven and based their decision on comments of County Counselor Joe O’Sullivan who said the statutes doesn’t allow for that, because not all the homes in the community are dilapidated structures, or are historic in nature.

Buhler officials argue that when the County agreed to such a zones within Hutchinson, it probably covers at least 550-homes, and thats what they’re talking about with Buhler, about 550-homes. Commissioners again didn’t like the way the plan was set up, and denied the request, but advised the officials, they could re-apply again at some point if they revamp their request.
