HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Reno County Commission will have their final meeting of the year next Tuesday and there is really only one item on the agenda.

That includes consideration of a resolution adopting an amended policy and procedure for solid waste assessment protest.

Property owners who wish to protest solid waste fee assessments may do so by submitting a written protest form prepared for that purpose to the Reno County Appraiser.

It would require the property owner to briefly summarize the basis for which they believe that either the real estate shouldn’t have been assessed or that the amount of the fee exceeded the fees established by the county for the applicable property classification.

All real estate parcels where a structure exists as of Jan. 1 of each year, regardless of classification, are assessed at least the minimum fee provided for each parcel.

This was discussed at this past Tuesday’s meeting and the commission is now expected to approve the resolution.

The commission will also discuss their projects and what they consider accomplishments over this past year and will also get an update from County Appraiser Brad Wright.

The Reno County Commission meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Reno County Courthouse.
