Reno County Commissioners gave approval Tuesday to issuing general obligation bonds for the building of a gas collection facility for the landfill. The county will issue about 1-million, 645-thousand dollars in bonds, plus another 1-million will come from the landfills closure fund to pay for the pay for the project.

The facility will use 100-wells to collect the methane gas that forms inside the trash cells at the landfill. The methane is considered pollution and must be properly disposed of. The facility will collect and burn off the gas.

The county also got a report on a visit from Kansas Department of Transportation officials who are considering a grant application from the county that would fund the proposed bike trail along the old K-61. Commissioners say they feel good about the visit and fill confident that they are in good shape to receive the grant funding.

The commissioners also approved a contract with K-DOT for the annual noxious weed program for this year.
