Reno County D-A’s office losing one of its attorney’s

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Reno County District Attorney Keith Schroeder has been in the market for another attorney even with him already warning the Reno County Commission that he may ask for two more with next years budget.

John Settle who served as the County Attorney for Pawnee County took the position as Senior Assistant District Attorney earlier this year filling the spot of Steve Maxwell who retired in 2016.

Settle will be leaving the local D.A.’s office taking a job with the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office handling alcohol and tobacco matters for that office according to Schroeder.

Settle is also known for being in the publishing business with five small-town newspapers including the Lyons Daily News.

Schroeder said he’s really been looking at finding another attorney since October when there was already some uncertainty at that point with Settles future with his office.

But, he also says he needs more attorney’s to handle the heavy caseload in his office.
