HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The collection of money by Reno County employees for The Salvation Army and the Reno County Food Bank has gone well. Bill Hermes, Director of Reno County Youth Services, is behind the drive.

They collected $2,144 this year, according to Reno County Commission Chairman Dan Deming. He says that’s $493,00 more than last year.

This has been a project of the county for the past 14 years. During that time, they have collected 33,381 pounds of food and raised $10,335 in cash for this effort.

It was a few years back when they stopped the actual collection of food items and instead went with what they call the “can-less food drive.” It simply collects money and surpassed last year’s total.

Everything raised is divided between The Salvation Army and the Reno County Food Bank.
