Reno County Youth Services Director talks shelter issues

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – During the Reno County Commission meeting, Youth Services Director Bill Hermes talked with the commission about numbers for what is called intake and assessment.

He says for the months of August and September they took in 175 kids into the facility. Seventy of those were juvenile offenders, while 105 were child in need of care cases. Of the 105, 40 were for children under the age of 10 and and ten were for children under the age of 1.

He says most were brought in by Hutchinson Police at 83 percent, followed by the Reno County Sheriff’s Office at 13 percent. The rest were from other agencies, including South Hutchinson Police and Haven Police.
