As we have been telling you, Dillon’s is planning a new store north of 30th & Waldron.

To accommodate that new store, the Hutchinson City Council Tuesday approved hiring an engineering firm to plan the widening of streets near where the new store will be built.

Dillon’s announced last month that it would replace it’s store at 30th & Plum, and move it east to the new location in an open area behind a Pic Quik convenience store, Sonic, Subway and a car wash.

The new Dillon’s will be a Marketplace store and officials say they decided to build a new store, because of not having anymore room at the 30th & Plum location.

Plans are to widen Waldron north from 30th, north to 33rd to three lanes, to provide a 900-foot-long lane to access the store from the east, then widening Waldron south of 30th, to three lanes for a 150-foot-long northbound left turning lane. That would also accommodate traffic from Hutchinson Regional Medical Center further south on Waldron.

They also plan to widen Plaza East Drive north of 30th to provide 120- feet for southbound right and left turning lane.

The traffic light at 30th & Waldron would also need to be modified because of the widening of the street.

Dillon’s is expected to pick up 70% of the price-tag, while the city would pick up the rest.

The City Council Tuesday agreed to a contract with Bartlett and West for a lump sum contract of 84-thousand dollars to develop the engineering plans.
