Royals add pitcher to roster

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (July 18, 2016) – The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have claimed KC_Royalsright ­handed pitcher Nick Tepesch off waivers from Oakland. He has been optioned to Omaha (AAA). To make room for Tepesch on the 40 ­man roster, the Royals have transferred right ­handed pitcher Kris Medlen to the 60-­day disabled list.

Tepesch, 27, has been with three different organizations this year, pitching at the Triple­A level for Round Rock (Texas), Oklahoma City (Dodgers) and most recently Nashville (Oakland). He’s gone 8-3 with a 3.96 ERA in 17 minor league starts this season. He made one Major League start this year with the Dodgers, taking an 8-­6 loss at Pittsburgh on June 24. The Kansas City native was originally selected by the Texas Rangers in the 14 th round of the 2010 MLB First ­Year Player Draft out of the University of Missouri.

He’s gone 9-­18 with a 4.68 ERA in 43 Major League outings (40 starts) since debuting in 2013.
