HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 67-year-old man failed to get his bond lowered when he appeared before a judge Monday on a charge of aggravated battery.

The case started around 1:50 a.m. Sunday when Jimmy Hamby apparently got into an altercation with another man in the 3000 block of East 4th. Hamby apparently accused the victim of breaking into his room in the residence they share.

When Reno County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived, they found the victim with a severe shoulder injury from a stab wound. They also found multiple knives on the porch of the residence.

The victim told deputies that Hamby chased him around the driveway. He then grabbed a folding chair and struck Hamby in an attempt to get away.

In court, Hamby denied all of it, saying he was inside the house the whole time.

Hamby has prior convictions for aggravated battery, burglary and forgery for cases in Reno County, as well as a number of convictions in Sedgwick, Ellsworth and Leavenworth counties.

He’ll be back in court next week to see if the state has filed formal charges.
