SALINA – Police in Salina released a statement Monday morning concerning a shooting where the Special Response team was called out:

On Sunday, January 6th, at about 5:15a-m, officers were sent to 325 S Oakdale reference a shooting.

When they arrived they found 50-year-old Kimberly Sue Vering had been been struck in the left calf with shotgun pellets.

Four occupants, two adults and their two children had escaped the residence, but two occupants were still inside, William M. Kelly and the suspect, 57-year-old Robert Alan Vering.

The Salina Police Department Special Response Team was called to the scene.

Kelly was afraid to leave the residence for fear of being shot by Vering.

The SRT then successfully extracted Kelly from the residence. In doing so, they encountered Vering, who immediately fled out the front door and was taken into custody in the front yard.

Robert Vering was also transported to SHRC for evaluation.

An affidavit has been completed requesting charges of Aggravated Battery, Criminal Threat and Battery against Robert Vering.
