MCPHERSON, Kan. —Both the Hutchinson and Nickerson high school volleyball teams faced tough competition at the McPherson Invitational Saturday.

The Hawks and Panthers were in the same pool in the preliminary rounds and both ended up 2-2, although Hutch did get the better of the Panthers in a three-set match.

Nickerson then fell to McPherson in the fifth through eighth place bracket in three sets. Hutchinson lost to Salina South in the same bracket, placing the Hawks and Panthers in the seventh place game. Hutchinson won again in three sets.

Both teams are back on the court Tuesday as Hutchinson will host Newton and Salina Central, while Nickerson travels to Hoisington.
