KANSAS CITY, KANSAS – A second federal firearms conviction will send a Kansas City, Kan., man to federal prison for eight years.

23-year-old Darrius M. Freeman, of Kansas City, Kansas, was sentenced to a total of 96-months in federal prison. He pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.

In his plea, Freeman admitted that on July 31, 2011, police were called to a report of shots fired near the Speedway gas station at 47th and Parallel Parkway. Officers stopped a white convertible in which Freeman was a passenger.

In the car, they found a loaded 9-mm Ruger pistol with the serial number obliterated. At the time, Freeman was prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm because of prior felony convictions on drug charges and fleeing arrest.
