WICHITA (AP) – The Sedgwick County Commission has approved a $1 million incentive for Bombardier Learjet’s planned expansion in Wichita.

KAKE-TV 10 reports the commission voted 4-1 Wednesday for the incentive, which the aircraft maker says it needs for a new parking lot. The Wichita City Council approved giving Bombardier $1 million last week, also for the parking lot.

Bombardier has announced plans for a $53 million expansion it says will eventually bring 600 jobs to Wichita. The project includes new buildings, an expansion of the company’s flight
testing capacity and the transfer of more engineering and technology work to Wichita.

County Commissioner Richard Ranzau voted against the incentive, saying the county is already operating in the red.

Bombardier is also negotiating with the state for incentives.
