Sedgwick County Detention Center to offer video visitation

Sedgwick County Jail 2

WICHITA, Kan. — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office has announced that, starting Aug. 25, Securus Technologies will offer video visitation to the inmates at the Sedgwick County Detention Facility and the trustees at the Work Release Facility.

Securus Technologies was chosen because of the reasonable prices charged for inmate telephone calls and video visitation, as well as the quality of their services and technology they will supply.

Securus Technologies has installed 59 visitation kiosks in the housing units and twelve units in the public lobby of the Detention Facility, using no tax dollars. Attorney and clergy visitation will continue to be face to face due to the privacy of those meetings. Family visitation in the lobby will take place Monday through Friday and the hours of operation in the lobby will remain the same. Visits that occur in the lobby will be at no charge.

The free on-site visits will no longer be restricted by housing location. Each inmate will be allowed up to three, free twenty minute on-site visits a week. All visits will be by appointment only and must be scheduled 24 hours in advance of the visit. Visitors can register online or in the lobby for on-site visits. Registration for online visits from home can be requested online at www.visitfromhome.net. Home visits may take place seven days a week.

Securus is offering an introductory price of $5 for forty minutes of in-home online visitation. For less than the price of gas and parking, you and your family can visit in the comfort of your home. All visitors are required to have valid identification to visit online or in the lobby.
