WICHITA – On April 29, 2011, Sedgwick County Sheriff Deputies responded to the area of 10,000 south 343rd Street West, after a citizen found a human skull in a creek bed. Since its discovery, the skull has been examined by an anthropology expert and a forensic dentist. Those examinations suggest the skull is consistent with a female of African American descent, between the ages of 16 to 22. In 2011, it was determined an estimated time of death to be one to ten years prior to discovery.

In May 2011, a team of anthropology students conducted a survey of the area where the skull was found. The survey resulted in the discovery of one human bone fragment (femur). The bone was examined and determined to be consistent with a female of African American descent.

In July 2012, the remains were sent to the FBI laboratory for additional testing and forensic reconstruction. The Sheriff’s Office has received a photograph of the reconstruction and we are asking for the public’s help in identifying the female.
