WICHITA – Sedgwick County Sheriff Bob Hinshaw has announced that he will seek re-election. He is filing as a Republican for the office

Hinshaw’s career began 32-years-ago as a detention deputy with the sheriff’s office. Promoted through the ranks by three different Sheriffs, he was first elected as the 39th Sheriff of Sedgwick County for the term beginning in 2009.

During his first three years in office, a partial list of accomplishments include, reducing the budget by 1.7 million dollars without affecting public safety, expanding the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, developed a gang unit that takes a county-wide task force approach, and partnered with other stakeholders in the criminal justice system to provide alternatives to jail when appropriate to better manage inmate population.

Hinshaw says he not only understands the diverse functions of the office of sheriff, but says he is actively engaged in the community including participation on several community and advisory boards, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters; Boy Scouts; and Envision.

“With the current economic situation and the outlook ahead, I believe it is critical that there be a firm understanding of where we have been and where we are now in order to provide the best service to everyone in Sedgwick County for the future” said Hinshaw. “I look forward to continuing to serve the community in which I was born and raised.”
