A Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Deputy has been arrested according to information released by the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrest of the unnamed deputy occurring around 7:30 p-m, when the deputy was booked in to the jail on one count of theft and one count of criminal use of a financial card. The arrest was made as the result of an internal investigation of a complaint made by an inmate on August 26.

Sheriff Jeff Easter said Friday the deputy bonded out of jail and is now on administrative leave.

He says an investigation began when the inmate complained that his 50-debit card was missing after he had been transported to a work release facility on Aug. 22. Surveillance video from a store shows a uniformed detention deputy using the card about eight hours after the inmate’s transfer.

Formal charges will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office in the next few days according to officials.

The deputy has been employed with the department since May of 2007 and is currently on administrative leave.
