HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Assistant District Attorney Steve Maxwell will be leaving the D-A’s Office at the end of August.

Maxwell says he’s retiring from the state, but will continue working with the military as part of the Judge Advocate General Office, but says he’ll mostly work as a judge for military cases.

Maxwell started with the District Attorney’s office on April 21, 2008 replacing Greg Benefiel.

Maxwell came to the Reno County D-A’s Office after serving as the Senior Deputy of the Johnson County District Attorney. Before that, he was a Senior Assistant Attorney General and spent ten years working for former Kansas Attorney Generals Carla Stovall and Phill Kline. He has previously been designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney.

He says he will leave the D-A’s office at the end of the Vonachen trial and there will be a reception to say goodbyes next Monday at 3:30 p.m.

With Maxwell leaving the D-A’s office, that means that District Attorney Keith Schroeder will need to find a replacement in his office.
