SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Two people avoided injury after their car was hit by a BNSF freight train
around 10:30 this morning on the west edge of South Hutchinson.
The Reno County Sheriff’s office reports a vehicle driven by Kristi Weiser was eastbound on 6th Avenue, east of Broadacres Road, when she tried to cross the tracks at the time the warning lights and gates were coming down. She reported that she could not go forward or backward to clear the crossing. Both Weiser and her bother abandoned the car before the train knocked the vehicle into the ditch.
The Sheriff’s department reports the train was only traveling at about 10 miles per hour when it hit the vehicle, and there were no injuries.
