LYONS – According to the Lyons Police Department, 25-year-old Great Bend resident Damon Galyardt whose body was found in Barton County on November 12th after being shot to death, was a suspect in a counterfeit money scheme that occurred early that same morning.

Lyon Police Chief Chris Detmer tells the Great Bend Post that Galyardt and an unidentified female had walked into a Kapps Convenience Store in Lyons and tried to passing of forged money. The night officer in Lyons responded, and then later got a second call of a couple trying to do it again. Detmer says the officer made contact with the man believed to be Galyardt. He then ran from the night officer for fear of being arrested. The woman came out of the store and also ran from the officer. Detmer was called out as backup and

Later, came the report of the woman being at the Dollar General in Lyons and trying to pass a fake 20-dollar bill there. She was taken into custody, and he also discovered she had warrants. They later confirmed the truck used belonged to Galyardt who was later found murdered in Barton County.

Last week, a person of interest was arrested in connection to the death of Galyardt. The shooting death case is still under investigation by the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, Great Bend Police Department, and the KBI.

Galyardt had served time for drugs and criminal possession of a firearm for cases out of Edwards County, and had been released from prison back in May, with the cases discharged in July.
