HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Another Smallville Con has come and gone in Hutchinson with good crowds both days, according to promoter Jon Robinson. He says the threat of bad weather did slow things down a bit Saturday night.

This event included numerous vendors as well as celebrity guests. One of those was Miah Kane, who is known for being a part of a number of series on the Travel Channel and the Discovery Network channels. Kane grew up in Hutchinson, but moved to Arizona as a teenager. He now makes his home in Brooklyn, New York. He talked about his childhood in Hutchinson.

“I lived in Hutchinson until I was 17 years old, my mom and two older brothers all relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, so I moved there back in ’95,” Kane said. “While in Hutchinson, I spent a lot of time just hanging out, a lot of my friends were skateboarders.” He says he does come back to Hutchinson, usually around Christmas.

Kane says his career in entertainment started when he and his two brothers started a band called “Blessed Be Thy Name.” That stint in music led to short films and eventually he studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York City. He then started with plays and eventually roles for cable.

“My first year out of acting school I did a lot of theater and I was lucky enough to do three off-Broadway plays,” Kane said. He then managed to get a show on the Travel Channel called “Mysteries at the Museum.”

Some of the shows he’s known for also include “A Crime to Remember” in 2013, “The Perfect Murder” in 2014 and “First Kiss” in 2017.

Kane says coming back to Hutchinson is refreshing because there are so many people in New York and in Brooklyn. The buildings sometimes make you feel confined. He says coming back to Kansas or Arizona is nice because you actually have wide open spaces and things move a little slower.
