It appears that this time was the charm for officials in the Buhler USD 313 School District wanting voters to approve a 44.9-million dollar bond issue.

The bond will provide funding for a new elementary school to replace Obee and Prosperity schools, as well as make significant improvements to other district buildings.

The bond issue appears to have passed by a wide margin, with around 67% of those who cast ballots voting yes, they want the bond issue and improvements to the district schools to around 32% saying no, they didn’t want the issue to pass and think the schools are just fine.

2,296 voted in favor of the bond issue or 67.83%, to 1089 voting no, or 32.17%.

Election officials say they still have few votes to count when they do the canvassing of the vote, but that won’t make any difference as far as the outcome.

Nearly 8% of the 9-thousand who are in the district had voted in advance, either at the courthouse with early voting or by mail-in ballots. 543-came to the courthouse and 172-had returned a ballot.

The plan is to close both Obee and Prosperity Elementary Schools, and build a new school on land along 43rd, on the north side of Hutchinson.
