HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Police Department was part of a short standoff Monday morning after a reported robbery in the 1300 block of North Main.

Just after 11 a.m., officers were summoned to Back to Nature at 1307 N. Main. When officers arrived, they found a subject leaving the store. The subject was chased to a house in the 300 block of West 16th Avenue.

Police surrounded the house. After a short time, officers were given permission by the homeowners to enter the house. However, the suspect had already left the area.

A later investigation revealed the incident was not a robbery, but a simple shoplifting case.

Authorities are searching for the subject on possible charges of misdemeanor theft and felony flee and elude.
