Sunday sales OK in Ellis County

HAYS (AP) – It’s now legal to buy and sell liquor on Sundays in unincorporated areas of Ellis County.

The Hays Daily News reports that a recent Ellis County resolution allowing Sunday liquor sales in unincorporated parts of the county became law this week. The resolution does not apply to the city of Hays.

County commissioners approved the resolution Oct. 13. The county then waited 60 days to give voters a chance to file protest petitions, but none were filed.

County Administrator Greg Sund told commissioners he consulted with County Counsel Bill Jeter on the language of the resolution and was told it mirrors state law.

Sund also said Kansas law provides that if the county allows packaged liquor to be sold on Sundays, the county can also issue Sunday open container permits.
