GARDEN CITY —A Southwest Kansas woman has announced she will seek the democrat nomination for the 1st Congressional District seat in Kansas.

Kali Barnett, 34, Garden City, is a political newcomer.  She is running for the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Roger Marshall.

Marshall has not announced he will seek a U.S. Senate seat, but he is expected to enter that race.

Barnett launched her campaign August 4.

Barnett said she will advocate for federal support of schools, better health care and access to health care for rural areas.

She will have campaign operations in Garden City and Manhattan.
