Hutchinson teens hospitalized after car hit by semi

NEWTON, Kan. — An 18-year-old Hutchinson teenager is in critical condition and another has non-life-threatening injuries after their car was broadsided by a semitrailer in Harvey County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident happened just before 6 p.m. Wednesday evening on U.S. Highway 50, two miles north of Halstead.

Jade M. Pepper-Hachenberger had passed several vehicles and attempted to make a U-turn after trying to turn on Halstead Road. A semi then hit the car while it was turning around.

Pepper-Hachenberger was flown to a Wichita hospital in critical condition.Another passenger, 17-year-old Irsa N. Alvarado was taken to a Newton hospital. A third passenger, 18-year-old Syleesa Andrade was uninjured, nor was the semi driver, 60-year-old David Allison of Halstead.
