Thunderbirds take Cougars – Hutch Post Archive

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Central Christian lost to Skyline 59-52 in Tuesday night’s game.

The Cougars raced out to a 40-29 lead at halftime.

However, Skyline started the third quarter quickly by knocking down two 3-pointers in the first four minutes. The Thunderbirds used that burst to close the gap and pull within four.

The Cougars quickly retaliated with a twist to the basket and led 42-36.

Two more 3-pointers boosted Skyline to a 47-45 advantage after three quarters.

After two free throws from Steve Fisher and a 3-pointer three minutes into the fourth, the Thunderbirds led 52-47.

Central Christian’s Deonis Coon sunk a 3-pointer with 3:12 left to keep the Cougars within four at 56-52.

However, the Cougars couldn’t make it to the basket and fouled the Thunderbirds twice. Skyline’s Mark Schmidt and Sam Fisher scored three points from free throws to finish off the Cougars 59-52.
