Coalition working to establish a program for undocumented workers in Kansas

TOPEKA – The Travel Industry Association of Kansas (TIAK) announced today it has joined the Kansas Business Coalition in its efforts to ensure Kansas adopts pro-business, pro-economic growth ways to deal with the issue of undocumented workers in Kansas.

“We join 27 other Kansas business, industry and local government groups in this Coalition as we work to address worker shortage concerns in certain industries,” said Donna Price, President of TIAK. “As the third largest economic sector of the Kansas economy, we do not want the Kansas tourism industry to experience the same economic hit Arizona’s tourism industry experienced. TIAK is seeking sensible immigration policy, one that advances Kansas’ economic growth while managing the many concerns of undocumented workers.”

The Coalition was formed in response to legislators seeking input from the business community on immigration issues. The Kansas Business Coalition is working to stop the enactment of over-reaching, oppressive “big government” immigration enforcement approaches used in states such as Arizona, Georgia and Alabama. The group seeks legislation that will utilize community and faith-based groups to assist undocumented workers in local communities; protect taxpayers and Kansas businesses from costly and unnecessary enforcement mandates; and meet the workforce needs of Kansas businesses and spark economic growth.

The Kansas Business Coalition is made up of 27 business, industry and local governments groups including, several chamber, business and agricultural associations, the construction and building industry and local units of government. Numerous religious and social service organizations are also supportive.
