The question of whether the trial for one of the men accused of being involved in the beating and stabbing of a Hutchinson man, Jeffrey Payne should be moved up was brought up in court Friday.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Steve Maxwell wanted the trial for Troy Bell moved because of a planned vacation. The trial was scheduled for November 19, and he wanted it moved to November 12. But, Defense Attorney Greg Meredith objected, saying he needs that time to prepare a defense. He also noted that there may be a potential new witness in the case and also wants to know the sentencing outcome for a co-defendant, Joseph LeShore. He’s scheduled to be sentenced on November 1.

Judge Chambers told us Friday afternoon that the trial will most likely occur sometime after the first of the year. He says they couldn’t move it to November 12, because another trial is already scheduled. That being Zachary Lawson who faces trial on charges from a case filed in 2011.

Others included in the crime against Payne include Jordon LeShore, Sean Arevalo, Desmund Cantu and John Cantu.

The attack on Payne occurred back on February 18, when these men allegedly broke into his home and physically attacked and stabbed him numerous times in the leg and torso.

The motive for the attack I allegedly over an incident involving the LeShore brothers mother where she may have been slapped so hard, she was knocked down. But, prosecutors say it wasn’t Payne who committed this act.
