The trial for a 39-year-old Texas man accused of attempted rape, aggravated kidnapping and sexual battery resumed Monday with testimony of law enforcement telling the jury of the investigation that led to the arrest of Johnathan Riffe.

He’s accused of the attempted to rape a Hutchinson woman in the early morning hours of October 31, 2010. He offered her a ride then allegedly tried to sexually assault her in the driveway of Hospice House.

This afternoon, Police Lt. John Moore who was working as a detective at that time told of his investigation in the case.

The discussion was over any possible video cameras in the area that might have caught the crime on tape, and Moore testified there were none close enough to catch anything. He also told of marks on the suspects stomach that would be consistent with scratch marks, and also the victims fingernails being broken, He also told the jury of clothing allegedly belonging to the victim found inside and out of the vehicle.

Earlier in the day, Police Officer Chad Agnew was again on the stand and told of the investigation and how he and fellow officers saw the vehicle they believed was involved in the case, and also the driver who they believe matched the description of the suspect they were looking for.

Later Officer Paul Winslow testified that he was asked to go to the Hospice House parking lot where the alleged attack occurring and look for clothing. He found two pieces in the lot. Later he was also sent to the Grand Slam parking lot and help look and help look for a white pickup. He says one drove in and the driver, Riffe matched the description of the suspect. He says he also noticed some high heels and other clothing in the passenger seat of the pickup.

The case was continued last week because prosecutor Steve Maxwell had a family emergency in Oklahoma. But, he was back Monday and the case resumed. Testimony is expected to continue Tuesday.
