HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Two residents of Wichita arrested in Reno County were formally charged in a drug distribution case.

Fifty-five-year-old Jerry Burns and 49-year-old Joan Burns were both charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute and unlawful possession of drug proceeds.

The state alleges that the couple had between 3.5 and 100 grams of meth on them at the time of the arrest.

Joan Burns was also arrested for trafficking contraband into a correctional facility. She appeared before Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen to hear the charges while in a wheelchair.

Jerry Burns is still jailed because of a federal hold and may have been taken to Wichita on that issue.

The Reno County case against the two will now move to a waiver-status docket.
