HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The two area residents were arrested on drug related charges Friday evening made first appearances in court Monday.

That included 29-year-old Christa Redd who is actually charged in two cases. One is for distribution of methamphetamine when she apparently used a phone to arrange a drug buy. The drugs were allegedly sold to a Reno County Drug Unit Officer. The pickup occurred in the 600 block of Brookside and allegedly a half ounce of meth was exchanged for $550.00. She was then arrested on the two charges.

That incident led to a search of the residence where they allegedly found 6.2 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, a handgun and $1,584 in cash. $550 of that money was from the controlled buy. She claims that she only sold drugs because she was told to by the co-defendant, 26-year-old Kerry Potter. However officers say they have five recordings of her talking about drug deals, product being stolen and negotiations about future prices on drug deals.

Potter is charged with possession of drugs with intent to distribute and criminal possession of a weapon. He told officers that selling meth helps pay the bills.

The bond for Redd is set at $29,000 and Potter’s is set at $24,500. Both will be back in court next week for any formal reading of charges.

Potter had served time in prison for DUI, driving while suspended, flee and elude and possession of drugs for a case going back to 2011. He was released back in Aug. of 2014.
