RENO COUNTY — Two people died in an accident just before 7:30 a.m. on Monday in Reno County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2014 Chevy Cruz driven by Esther G. Jenkerson, 21, Datil, New Mexico, was northbound on Sego Road fourteen miles west of South Hutchinson.

The driver pulled out from the Stop sign on Sego Road in front of a semi that was westbound on U.S. 50.

The semi hit the passenger side of the Chevy.

The Chevy entered the north ditch and overturned.

Jenkerson and a passenger, Xavier C. Bradford, 25, Lancaster, California, were pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the Sedgwick County Forensics Center. They were students at Sterling College.

The semi driver, Edwin G. Lehmann, 59, Lehigh, was not injured.

All three were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Two people have been killed in an accident involving a semi and passenger
vehicle this morning.

Few details are still available but the Kansas Highway Patrol reports that the accident did involve a semi and a second vehicle at the intersection of US-50 and Sego Rd. The accident happened around 7:25 a.m.

The intersection is part of the detour involving the K-61 bridge project near Arlington, and has increased traffic at that intersection bringing all K-61 traffic as well as normal US-50 traffic to that area.

No names have been released at this time.
