NEWTON – Two people were killed and two others injured in a two vehicle accident early Saturday in Harvey County.

Killed was 21-year-old Devaun Beatrice Hudson of Wichita, 27-year-old Joshua Wayne Hudson of Beebe, Arkansas. Injured in the crash was 54-year-old Yvonne Rippee and 51-year-old Robert Kitchens, both of Collierville, Tennessee. They were both taken to Via-Cristi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Devaun Hudson was southbound on I-135, while Rippee was northbound. Hudson, for an unknown reason lost control, crossed the median and struck Rippee’s vehicle head-on. Her vehicle then struck an outside barrier and caught fire.

The accident occurring just before 1:30 a-m near the exit with 1st Street on the east side of Newton.
