PRATT – The Pratt Police Department is still investigating a 2-year-old child’s death, after the child was taken to the Pratt Regional Medical Center Tuesday with an apparent gunshot wound.

According to a news release, the child had a significant head injury, the result of a single gunshot wound. The shooting apparently occurring at the child’s residence in the 100 block of South Pine in Pratt.

Emergency treatment to the child was rendered at the Pratt hospital, but was transferred to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita where the child died several hours later.

Police say they have no information or evidence to suggest that this is nothing more then a tragic accident. They were apparently called to Pratt Regional Medical Center after the child was brought in.

Pratt Police Detective Jeff Ward says, “Our hearts and prayers go out to the family as they begin to deal with their loss.”

He says the investigation continues and the names are being with held until all next of kin have been notified.
