The jobless rate for the city of Hutchinson and Reno County increased by a full percentage point in January, according to the latest numbers released by the Kansas Department of Labor.

The numbers show the unemployment rate for Hutchinson is up 1.5% in January to 7.9%, up from 6.6%. That’s also higher then a year ago when the rate was at 5.8%.

The county unemployment rate also climbed, but not as much. The county rate is at 6.5% in January up from 5.4% in December and 5.8% in January of 2012.

Other counties also saw increases, such as Harvey County up to 5.7%, Kingman at 5.1%, McPherson at 4.4%, Pratt at 4.3%, Rice at 4.4%, Stafford at 5.1% and Sedgwick with its large population at 7.1%.

The seasonally adjusted state unemployment rate stayed unchanged from December at 5.5 percent. Triggered by seasonal factors, the state lost 19,400 private sector jobs and 27,700 non-farm jobs since December 2012.
